Receive

So, our RS theme for 2011 is "Receive the Gift".  We want the ladies in our ward to take action, do things, and Receive.   Getting a gift isn't the same as receiving a gift.  The word receive is so much more then just "getting something".

Here is the definition of  Receive from the Merriam Webster Dictionary online
(http://www.aolsvc.merriam-webster.aol.com/dictionary/receive)

RECEIVE:
to come into possession of
to act as a receptacle or container for
to assimilate through the mind or senses  (receive new ideas)
to permit to enter : admit, welcome, greet
to react to in a specified manner
to accept as authoritative, true, or accurate : believe
to support the weight or pressure of : bear
to take (a mark or impression) from the weight of something

acquire, experience
to suffer the hurt or injury of

ALL of these are action words:  Come, Act, Assimilate, Permit, React, Accept, Support, Take, Acquire, Suffer.

So, whether you are receiving the gift of Christ and salvation or the gift of Friendship and Gratitude, they all require something on your part.  You have to do something.

Here's the scripture I read this morning about receive:
Matthew 3:34 JST

34Why is it that ye receive not the preaching of him whom God hath sent? If ye receive not this in your hearts, ye receive notme; and if ye receive not meye receive not him of whom am sent to bear record; and for your sins ye have no cloak.

Having your sins exposed (without your cloak to hide them) would be SO embarrassing!  : )
We'd better start receiving more of the good stuff God has given us with His gospel.
